Introduction

Once weeds establish themselves in an area, it is extremely difficult to eradicate them. It is more practical to apply time and money to weed prevention tactics that keep weeds from entering an area than attempting to control weeds after they invade. By participating in a simple seed-dispersal demonstration, students will learn that it is easier to prevent weeds from entering an area than removing them once they have become established. Students will learn about weed prevention tactics and techniques by interviewing weed managers. Before teaching this lesson, read the entire lesson and make sure all materials are available.
