Grade: K to 2
Introduction
In earlier lessons, students learned how invasive weed species came to the United States and how special adaptations enable weeds to spread in the absence of natural limiting factors. This lesson will briefly review these ideas. Students will receive an introduction to the concept of weed control: the methods of control; the need for integrated weed management; and the concept of managing, not eradicating weeds. Students will also develop a sense of personal responsibility to become a part of the ongoing solution. Before teaching this lesson, read the entire lesson and make sure all materials are available.

Grade: 3 to 5
Introduction
Students will actively participate in a physically demanding game, which is an adaptation of New Game, Blob Tag. The game demonstrates what happens when a leaf-eating beetle that feeds on the invasive plant species purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria, is introduced into an area that has been overcome by purple loosestrife. Before teaching this lesson, read the entire lesson and make sure all materials are available.
